As much as black and white allowed me to talk to the men of morocco, I felt compelled to use colour to capture the essence of the countryside and the animals.
As the scarab advances across the endless sands, the little squirrel of sand. Tumble weed is blown from left to right by the wind in this utterly desert environment. A little cloud dances across the surface of a sand dune. The cloud – so free, so aerial and so light, the dune a slave bound to the earth that will never experience weightlessness. A magnificent sunset over the Draa Wadi.
I believe that colour photography was the only medium that I could use to capture my moments with the Tuareg and the Berbers of the mountains. By complete immersion into Berber culture I was able to capture some truly intimate moments. A nomadic family were kind enough to let me cross the desert with them for a few weeks.
In Morocco, one is on the edge of the vast and great Sahara. But the civilization has already changed considerably; one must then go further in order to find adventure. One could continue south to Niger for example.
